Sunstroke 5k #2 - 2010

First Town Lake race of the year. I thought I did pretty well. Used my running mix which pushed me quite a bit, but still didn’t come out that fast. This is a little sad because I did the longhorn run which was a 10k in 53:33 for 8:39/mile a few weeks ago. I really thought I’d picked it up a bit. Of course the Longhorn run was a cool morning race, so maybe that’s part of it. I always underestimate the effect of the heat.

I always feel like it is. But it’s not.

Mostly these are about keeping me from having a comfortable rhythm. Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones Love, Sex, Intelligence - Shaman James Brown is Dead - LA Style Eye for an Eye - UNKLE All My Life - Foo Fighters Victim is another name for lover - Sunshine Wonderful Night - Fatboy Slim

Not to be too literal, but a couple of the tracks from the Run, Lola, Run soundtrack are also great for running.

I’ve spent a lot of time running to that soundtrack and also love Death from Above 1979, Deltron 3030, and absoutely love Weapon of Choice by Fatboy Slim (I have to keep from dancing off like Christopher Walkin when that one comes on), but they tend to work in concert with my heartbeat and I don’t push myself. I find techno that’s not particularly good to dance to and stuff with weird time signatures works better to keep me pushing because it’s harder to syncopate against my footfalls.

Good point actually. I’ve been working out to Tiesto podcasts recently. They’re much, much better than any albums he’s put out recently and (though I hadn’t thought about it) motivating without locking one into a particular cadence.
