Conservative Songs?
This guy is oh, so very insane. He’s gone on to create a further list of “conservative songs”.

My personal favorites:
Obviously he has no idea what sarcasm is. I mean, the lyric he quotes is “What the world needs now / Is another folk singer / Like I need a hole in my head.†Now, if you sing that in the style of a folk song, wouldn’t one assume that you were being highly sarcastic? Also isn’t this song completely about wanting to check out of the political process, because it sucks and go find some music that will get his girlfriend in bed? I have no clue what makes that conservative, but I’m pretty sure it violates their conservative rules by advocating pre-maritial sex.
Not to mention the fact that David Lowery is perhaps one of the least conservative people on earth, and his music almost always reflects this.
The Night Has Opened My Eyes by The Smiths
Apparently any mention of abortion in song makes the song conservative. I would take this as a pretty complex argument about abortion in general, but he does not. Of course he’s proven himself fairly poor at discerning lyrics.
The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics
”Every generation / Blames the one before / And all of their frustrations / Come beating on your door.”
This one was a shock to me, and a relief to me. I was unaware that only conservatives have father’s who die. Mine will live forever apparently. Hooray! Not to mention his misappropriated quote should mean that conservatives should stop trying being so upset about the New Deal and sexual liberation of the sixties. I mean that was their father’s and grandfather’s problems right?
MTA by the Kingston Trio
Apparently the word tax is like the subject of abortion. I’m pretty sure this song is anti-regressive taxes, since I’m unaware of any rich people taking mass transit who can’t afford another nickle.
Ok, I’ve got to get back to work. I can’t even believe they put the Byrds in there with Turn, Turn, Turn.
I think they’ve forgotten two great conservative rock songs:
In Bloom - Nirvana (they like it because they like shooting their guns and don’t know what it means)
We Need A War - Fisherspooner (the best song about the Bush doctorine written)

I lost interest in that list after a few songs and didn’t make it to The Smiths song. No they didn’t! I cannot believe they used “The Night Has Opened My Eyes”, which is a beautiful song, one of my favorites, but is not anti-abortion, it’s all about whether a girl made the right decision in putting her baby up for adoption or not. About all the complex emotions surrounding that decision. And since conservatives don’t really believe in complex emotions, just black or white, right and wrong, I doubt they would understand the song.

I read those lyrics wrong. It’s either about adoption or infanticide. But definitely not abortion.
